Instagram from a Performance Branding Perspective

Substantially revised on . Originally published on .
Before planning your next Instagram post, decide what the channel should do for your business. A hotel needs different content and next steps from an industrial company recruiting staff. Our Performance Branding framework separates the foundations from activities designed to test a specific advantage.
What has changed since the first edition
In its 2026 outlook, Meta reported that original posts accounted for 75 percent of Instagram recommendations in the US in Q4 2025. This is a platform-reported figure for one market and period, not a forecast for Austria. It supports making room in the content plan for original material and a perspective of your own.
Meta also describes Trial Reels, which show a reel to non-followers first. Its description says initial engagement metrics become available after roughly 24 hours. Check availability in your account. This can inform a format decision; it does not establish additional sales or a lasting reach advantage.
Digital Basics: A profile that answers questions
Your profile and linked website should make clear what you offer, who it is for and how to contact you. Check opening hours, locations, offer details and contact routes. Use customer questions to decide what visitors need to find in posts or highlights. A fixed number of feed posts is not a measure of quality.
Before a campaign, define a suitable enquiry and how you will record it. Analyse organic content and paid distribution separately. A large potential audience tells you little about whether your offer matters to those people.
Digital Advantages: Put an original idea to the test
A possible test for a hotel: one original short video answers a common question about getting there; another explains which type of stay the hotel suits. This is a hypothetical example, not a documented client case. Both posts need a clear route to the relevant information or a booking enquiry.
- Choose a question: Start with questions from consultations, comments or sales conversations. Remove personal details.
- Test one assumption: Decide which content or opening you want to compare. Keep the offer, period and additional advertising as comparable as possible.
- Separate outcomes: Look first at reach and reactions, then website visits and suitable enquiries. Different audiences and distribution can distort the comparison; a trial reel is not a controlled A/B test.
- Record the decision: Note what you learned, which evidence is missing and whether further production is worthwhile. One successful post is not enough to project future results.
Which Austrian figures are useful?
For every audience figure, record the source, period, region and metric. Potential advertising reach, registered accounts and monthly active people measure different things. Budget decisions also need your own campaign costs, enquiry quality and feedback from sales.
