LinkedIn from a performance branding perspective

Substantially revised on 14 October 2026. Originally published on 22 May 2024.

LinkedIn lets advertisers reach people by their professional role and the company they work for. That makes it useful for B2B offers. Whether the advertising pays off becomes clear further down the line: does the enquiry fit the offer, does it lead to a conversation, and does that conversation become business?

Our Performance Branding framework helps organise the work. Digital Basics establish a reliable presence. Digital Advantages go further and require a subject on which the business has something useful to say.

Digital Basics on LinkedIn

Someone looking up a company should quickly understand what it offers, who it works for and how to get in touch. That calls for a clear description, a current website link and accurate location and industry details. Employees should be able to associate their profiles with the right company Page.

The content needs to support that first impression. An explained use case, an answer to a recurring customer question or a look at the work gives readers more to go on than interchangeable success announcements. For recruitment, show what the team works on and what applicants can expect from the role. Link vacancies directly to the relevant job listing.

LinkedIn Performance Branding – Digital Basics overview

Digital Advantages: put a person behind the expertise

A useful expert post often starts with a question from everyday work. Why did we choose this solution? Where does a project become unnecessarily expensive? What do buyers regularly overlook when choosing a supplier? Someone who can answer those questions has material for their own LinkedIn presence.

A corporate influencer programme therefore needs people with expertise and time. Editorial support can help with topics, structure and wording. The judgement must come from the person whose name appears on the post. Allow time for questions and discussion, too.

Promote useful posts to a relevant audience

Thought Leader Ads let companies sponsor eligible public posts with the author's permission. A specialist contribution can then reach people beyond the author's existing network. Single-image and video posts have no additional CTA button; any intended link needs to be in the post text.

Choose the post for its relevance to your audience. A lively discussion among peers is a different signal from questions by potential customers. Both can matter, but they serve different purposes.

B2B enquiries: what happens after the form?

LinkedIn offers professional targeting and pre-filled Lead Gen Forms. Advertisers can reach people in selected functions, industries or companies. A form can make contact easier. The conversation that follows establishes whether there is a concrete need.

Before launch, agree with sales what makes an enquiry a good fit and who will follow it up. Then record which contacts become conversations, proposals and customers. This lets you assess cost per qualified enquiry alongside cost per contact. A cheap download alone tells you little about the business outcome.

Our customer acquisition work connects audience, offer and follow-up. For topics, editorial planning and an ongoing presence, see our Social Media service.

LinkedIn platform insights

Members worldwide

On 30 April 2026, LinkedIn reported more than 1.3 billion members. This is a membership figure, not a monthly active user count.

Members in Austria

Digital 2026: Austria reports 3.0 million registered members in late 2025, based on LinkedIn's advertising resources. This does not measure monthly activity either. Campaign planning needs the audience estimate in Campaign Manager after applying your own targeting criteria; the national membership figure cannot replace that estimate.

Where to start

Get the company Page, offer and contact route into good shape first. Then choose a customer question that someone on your team can answer with authority. That gives you a first expert post. If you promote it, decide beforehand whom it should reach and what you want the reader to do next.
